EXCERPTS
FROM PUNK:
There was an abandoned church downtown that punks converted into a bacchanal, inverting the crosses, lofting in the chapel and vomiting in the baptismal font. The church took its revenge. There was a second story door that literally opened up on nothing; the bums across the street would laugh as drunken punks, thinking it was the bathroom door, fell to the bone crushing cement below.

With Valley of the Dolls as his primer, Michael's pill-popping performance art could be annoying, like at Magic Mountain when he planked the park's concrete floor fifteen minutes after we got there. More than once, fucked up on the way home from the bars late at night, he would send his VW Bug careening like a launched pinball into a half dozen cars lined along Kester Avenue in North Hollywood.

Kip Noll's tan was a faded memory, alabaster skin accenting a spotted face, surprisingly dressed in his signature Daisy Dukes, those aquavescent eyes too blurry to focus on much. Not that they needed to, he didn't have any say about anything. The raw attraction was undeniable but there was no sense of him enjoying any measure of success. In any other circumstance I would have assumed he was a hustler that hit his sell by date.

Over the years, Spider and I endured a lot of shit as an openly gay couple. There were times when we got pelted by rocks, water balloons, and we were called Faggot I can't tell you how many times. A guy pulled a knife on us at a Sav-On drug store. In 1972 we had a little cat named Ginkmo that disappeared, we were looking everywhere for him and when we came home and there was a box by our apartment door that said 'Faggot' across the top and we found Ginkmo in there dead with a noose around his neck. We took a lot of shit.
When the roughest of the rough trade found themselves at the intersection of desperation and fierce defiance they were primed and ready for David Hurles. Saul warned me about this roving sexual predator. A slight, unassuming but shifty Hispanic fellow in his late-thirties, Hurles came to us almost every week with his latest photo spreads. After consulting with Saul, he would drift over to my corner, accompanied by the latest refugee he'd scraped off of Hollywood Boulevard.
The Casablanca club was having new wave dancing that night with KROQ's Rodney Bingenheimer. Some nearby Led Zep rednecks who don't want this punk thing spreading and spoiling their Orange County paradise, started (and lost) a fight with the bouncers at the club. They came back in the middle of the night and torched the place. The owner also has had problems with his other club, The Cuckoo's Nest in Costa Mesa. The Cuckoo's Nest is the premiere place in Orange County to see live hardcore but it happens to be right next door to a redneck bar where they hate punkers 'to the max.' To the concrete.
I watched in horror as Dale Bozzio, lead singer of Missing Persons, stumbled off the stage at the New Florentine Gardens in tears having just endured what no performer ever wants to face and few ever have to—a hostile crowd of punks that booed, hissed, spit and threw pennies. Before the set I told Chuck Wild, the group's keyboardist, I was worried something of the sort might happen, that's what happens when you send a power pop band to open for one of the UK's hardest of the hardcore, Stiff Little Fingers.

Some reviews of Billy Ingram's book
TVparty! Television's Untold Tales:

"Damn fine... Ingram has packaged the best of TVparty.com into a book and CD-ROM combo, with features like "Why Were There Two Darrins on Bewitched?" and "Good Times: They Weren't!" as well as cool audio and video relics like Quisp cereal commercials and local TV kids shows of the '50s and '60s. Good stuff!"
- Kimberly Potts, E! Online

"Even if you didn't grow up on these series, the book is a revelation - filled with esoteric memories and rare photos, and all sorts of proof of how much TV shows (and commercials) of the 1950s & 60s warped our minds (in good way). Winky Dink, Shrimpenstein, Bob McAllister, "Hank", Jot, The Hathaways - If these names mean anything to you, run out and get this book immediately! This isn't just the website in book form. It's a great read and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- Jerry Beck, Cartoon Research

"For the Literate Couch Potato... it was worth killing all those trees. TVparty! is a wide-ranging treat, based on Billy Ingram's fabulously indispensable Web site of the same name that's a living repository for dead TV. Is this tube-glued heaven or what?
- Diane Wertz, Newsday

"This book is a great deal of fun, and I recommend it. As a reading experience, TVparty is approximately (and appropriately) like zapping your way up and down the cable box, glancing only briefly at things of mild interest to you and lingering longer on items you enjoy."
- Ben Varkentine, Ink 19

Some reviews of Billy Ingram's book
TVparty! Television's Untold Tales:

"Like a box of bedside bonbons, TVParty! is too rich for gobbling at one sitting. A bonus CD-ROM offers children's shows and toy commercials, and rare celebrity outtakes, including one from the imperious, queenly Jonathan Harris, who played Dr. Smith from Lost in Space."
- Frontiers magazine

"Jam packed with a lot of really great stuff. It's fabulous! It's full of unbelievable stories and great pictures and really good things and it's just awesome."
- WGN Radio

"Here to whet gluttonous appetites of all pop culture enthusiasts, TVparty! is like eavesdropping on the most happening party in town. How was Alfalfa really murdered? Who killed TV's Superman. Just how good were the Good Times? Scandals. Mysteries. Gossip. Everyone from Bette to Burnett has been invited, and the dirt flies. A bonus CD-Rom treats us to A Very Bette Christmas and classic commercials like Quisp vs Quake. A deliciously wicked celebration of the box and the surrogate families that have lured us."
- Genre Magazine

"I had heard of the web site that has been up and running since the mid-1990s, and had even seen it referenced in other media, but this is the first time that Billy Ingram has taken his web resources and put them into print. In this age of logo-cluttered screens, news tickers, constant commercials and a fascination with reality television, it was very refreshing to read about other times in our television history.

"TVparty! is a must-read for anyone in Generation X, the Baby Boomers, or anybody who loves television. Television's untold tales are presented in a witty and entertaining manner in Billy Ingram's TVparty! from Bonus Books. I loved it, and I'm sure you will too!"
- Michael Bird, WTBF FM 94.7
